Disney’s upcoming live-action adaptation of “Lilo & Stitch” has cast newcomer Kahiau Machado as David Kawena. In the original animated film, Kawena is the older sister, Nani’s love interest and Lilo’s friend. Sydney Agudong (“Infamously in Love”) will play Nani, Maia Kealoha will play Lilo, and Zach Galifianakis will play a still undisclosed role.

Stitch will still be the work of CG, though the thought of someone in a costume is pretty fun.

“Lilo & Stitch,” tells the story of a friendship between a lonely girl named Lilo and a dog-like alien named Stitch. Which can be a challenging relationship since Stitch was genetically engineered to be a force of destruction. The pair strengthen their bond under the watchful eye of Nani, Lilo older sister who is raising Lilo after the death of their parents. Leaving the group to contend with not only the aliens pursuing Stich but a nosy social worker as well. Through their shared sense of family, we watch as they overcome obstacle after obstacle.

Dean Fleischer Camp (“Marcel the Shell With Shoes On“) directs form a script by Chris Kekaniokalani Bright (“Tsuru”). Based on characters created by the directors/writers of the original 2002 film Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois. Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich of Rideback are producing. With Rideback’s Ryan Halprin executive producing.

We’ll keep you posted on updates about the new “Lilo & Stitch” movie as they become available.  The film is intended to be released on Disney+.
