Warner Bros. Discovery is wasting no time in loading up its streaming platform, MAX. The service launches on May 23rd, and will replace HBO Max, with added content from Discovery+. One of the big projects announced is a new tv series based on “The Conjuring” horror franchise.

Plot details are still under wraps, and there is no writer attached currently. The series will “continue the story established in the feature films.” Which doesn’t really narrow it down too much, considering the eight films in the series all cover very different subjects in a shared universe. Three revolve around demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren (Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga). The couple that travels around documenting and attempting to aid people suffering at the hands of the supernatural.

Three of the films are about Annabelle, a haunted doll. While the sinister toy was discovered by the Warrens, her story became an entirely different trilogy. Then there is “The Curse of La Llorona,” which is based on Spanish folklore. As well as “The Nun,” and its upcoming sequel, which is due in November, about a demon nun. So, there are a lot of different paths they can take for a series that will expand “The Conjuring” universe.

Peter Safran will be an executive producer, he also produced the film series and is co-head DC Studios with James Gunn. James Wan, who directed the first two “The Conjuring” films, has produced seven of them, and is in talks to serve as an executive producer. Warner Bros. Television will produce the project alongside Safran’s The Safran Co., as part of an overall deal with the studio, and Wan’s Atomic Monster.

This series is just one of the many announcements made yesterday about the new Max platform. Other programs include a second spinoff of “The Big Bang Theory,” a “Harry Potter” series, and another “Game of Thrones” prequel.

We’ll keep you posted on news about “The Conjuring” series as it becomes available.
