Chuck Lorre’s “Big Bang Theory” Spinoff to be ‘Flagship Show’ on MAX

HBO Max and Discovery+ merger is forming a streaming platform called MAX. It will be launching in the U.S. on May 23rd, and will replace the HBO Max streaming service. Warner Bros. Discovery, among several big announcements, confirmed a new spinoff of “The Big Bang Theory” from series creator Chuck Lorre will be one of the “flagship” shows.

The original sitcom ran for 12 seasons on CBS. Its first spinoff, “Young Sheldon,” is currently in its 6th season. Not much is known about the new series’ plot at this time. The new series will take place in the same universe as the original.

“The Big Bang Theory” ended with Leonard (Johnny Galecki) and Penny (Kaley Cuoco) expecting their first child. So naturally, fans assumed this new spinoff would follow the couple becoming first time parents. But Galecki and Cuoco have already shot this theory down.

“(Laughing.) No. I don’t want to be too definitive, but then I was in my weird way,” Galecki said. “I feel like these seven characters share seven different areas of the same brain. We have split them off in every single different division you can and it all works. There’s no two that don’t work together. I don’t think it would be a disaster, but it wouldn’t be Big Bang,”

“Uhhh, no! But if Chuck asked me I would highly consider it because I don’t say no to Chuck,” Cuoco said. “I think they’re going to be awesome parents. They waited so many years and they’re so fun and easygoing. Or Penny is really kind of easygoing! I think they’d be adorable parents. I can only imagine.”

“The Big Bang Theory” streams exclusively on HBO Max due to a deal between Lorre and Warner. “I couldn’t wrap my head around the idea of going on without the whole ensemble – and the whole ensemble is why we succeeded,” Lorre told THR. “In pulling it apart and re-approaching it as a fraction of what it was just never felt right to me. I’ve seen other shows try and fail to take a character out of their realm and carry on. And maybe ‘Frasier‘ is the only thing I could think of off the top of my head where it really did work, thanks to the lightning strike of David Hyde Pierce.”

Well keep you posted on updates about the new spin off of “The Big Bang Theory” as they develop.
