Kanye West Says Jonah Hill Made Him “Like Jewish People Again”

Ye, aka Kanye West, has recently taken to social media to announce that he no longer identifies as an anti-Semite. The rapper and fashion mogul credited his change of heart to a surprising source: actor Jonah Hill.

In a recent Instagram post, West shared his newfound appreciation for Jewish people. “Watching Jonah Hill in ‘21 Jump Street‘ made me like Jewish people again,” he wrote. “No one should take anger against one or two individuals and transform that into hatred towards millions of innocent people. No Christian can be labeled an anti-Semite knowing Jesus is Jew. Thank you Jonah Hill, I love you.”

West’s post comes after a year of making a series of anti-Semitic comments and promoting conspiracy theories related to Jewish people. These actions resulted in significant financial losses for the rapper, as he lost partnerships with major brands such as GAP, Adidas, and Balenciaga, as well as a record contract and canceled concerts. The Anti-Defamation League even released a report earlier this year connecting at least 30 hate incidents to West’s comments.

Hill, who is Jewish, starred in the 2012 comedy film “21 Jump Street” alongside Channing Tatum and Brie Larson. The film follows two police officers who go undercover at a high school to bust a drug ring. Hill’s character, Morton Schmidt, is portrayed as a lovable but somewhat awkward student who befriends Tatum’s character, Greg Jenko.

What Changed West’s Mind is Still Unclear

It is unclear what specific elements of Hill’s performance or the film itself inspired West’s change of heart. However, it is noteworthy that he chose to credit Hill and the film as catalysts for his newfound appreciation of Jewish people.

West’s journey from espousing anti-Semitic beliefs to denouncing them is a reminder of the power of media and representation to shape our perspectives and worldviews. It remains to be seen whether his new outlook will lead to a broader commitment to tolerance and understanding, but it is certainly a step in the right direction.
