    Bruce Campbell Says Animated “Evil Dead” Project in the Works

    About five years ago, comedy-horror icon Bruce Campbell retired from the part of Ash Williams. He said the physical strain was getting to be too much. At 64, he’s had an impressive run as the Deadite slayer. But that doesn’t mean goodbye. Campbell has continued his role as Ash in various video games. And, he says he and Sam Raimi are actively pursuing an animated “Evil Dead” film.

    There wasn’t a lot of info. All Campbell can say is it’s being “actively” pursued. “Sam’s a busy guy. He had a big hit movie, so he’s got a lot on his plate, but he and his brother are actively shaping out the world,” Campbell told Bloody Disgusting. “It’s one thing to get an animator and say, ‘Hey, animate this!’ You’ve got to know what you’re going to animate. I look forward to it, because my voice hasn’t aged as much as I have.”

    It’s perfect! Fans will still get to enjoy their beloved Ash-y snark, and Bruce can do it all from the comfort of a recording booth.

    Whatever Happens, He’ll Always Be Ash

    Despite retirement, Campbell has never been far from the Evil Dead franchise. The upcoming film “Evil Dead Rise” has Raimi, Campbell, and Robert Tapert (“Ash vs. Evil Dead,” “Don’t Breathe“) credited as producers. No doubt to ensure that the film stays true to its Necronomicon roots. Currently, we can only speculate what service Raimi may try to pair with in order to produce an “Evil Dead” animated film or series. Due to the nonsense surrounding Warner Bros. Discovery, “Evil Dead Rise” was meant to premiere on HBO Max, but has since been moved to a theatrical release.

    Knowing the Raimi brothers are actively working towards an animated series is super exciting. Until then, we’re sure fans are happy to wait patiently for the announcement sometime in the future.
