Bruce Campbell Teases “Evil Dead Rise” Coming to Theaters

With all of the original creators (Sam Raimi, Bruce Campbell and Rob Tapert) being involved in “Evil Dead Rise,” it’s no surprise reactions to test screenings of the movie have been positive. The film is directed by Lee Cronin, who is a big Evil Dead fan, and the film already has Warner Bros. Discovery second guessing if they should pull back on releasing the movie straight to digital on HBO Max.

Campbell, who played the goofy braggart main character Ash, was recently at SDCC talking about the film’s reception so far. “We just had a preview that went…that was very high ratings,” Campbell said of the film. “They were potentially going to stream it on HBO Max, but it might go theatrical. Maybe in the fall.”

The quality level of the Evil Dead franchise has never waned from the first movie to the short-lived STARZ series. Fans even fell in love with the blood soaked 2013 “Evil Dead” remake that was directed by longtime super fan Fede Alvarez. So, there is zero surprise when this sort of news pops up about the cult classics that make up the Evil Dead franchise. Plus, anything Evil Dead is still good news considering Bruce Campbell announced that he would be retiring the character going forward due to the physical pain of having to play the role. Which I think most fans will understand since playing Ash is about taking a lot of physical torment, sometimes even from the director himself, Sam Raimi.

We look forward to hearing more news about “Evil Dead Rise” and this little tidbit of information now has us hyped for the movie. Let all Evil Dead fans recite the words that Warner Bros. gives us a theatrical release, so that we may indulge again in the bloodshed of the Deadites!
