In January, “M3GAN” writer Akela Cooper cruelly teased horror fans by saying there was a much gorier cut of the film. Well, it has been confirmed that a bloodier cut of the killer AI film will be released later this month. As well as getting a physical release on Blu-ray and DVD in late March.

“M3GAN” hit theaters on January 6th and apparently had to be cut down for a PG-13. “No shade to Universal, love them, and I understand that once the trailer went viral, teenagers got involved and you want them to be able to see it,” Cooper explained. “There should be an unrated version at some point … I heard it is on the books. But yes, it was way gorier. Her body count in the script was higher than in the movie. It wasn’t a Gabriel [in Malignant]-scale massacre, but she did kill a bunch more people, including a couple of characters whom James [Wan] was like, “I like what you did with those people, but I want them to live.” I was merciless, but again, that is me. My humor is extremely dark.” Lucky for us “some point” is much sooner than later.

Even with the trimmed-down PG-13 version the film has already made $91 million in the United States, and pulled in $167 million worldwide. This is really impressive considering PG-13 ratings are normally the kiss of death for horror films. There is already a planned sequel with “M3GAN 2.0,” which is currently slated for a 2025 release.

Special bonus features for the uncut release of  “M3GAN” will be:

    • A New Vision of Horror – Where the filmmakers and cast break down how the world of “M3GAN” was created. From the initial idea, through production under director Gerard Johnstone (“Housebound”).
    • Bringing Life to “M3GAN” – Gives a behind-the-scenes look as to how actor Amie Donald, animatronics, and puppets made M3GAN the killer doll so realistic.
    • Getting Hacked – A behind-the-scenes look at how cast and crew pulled off the film’s complex stunts and gory deaths
