“Cocaine Bear” Gets Tie-In Video Game “Rise of Pablo Escobear”

If you can’t get enough of danger floofs on blow, have we got the game for you! To promote the upcoming horror comedy “Cocaine Bear,” we now have the 8-bit online video game titled “Cocaine Bear: the Rise of Pablo Escobear.” A name that is so punny and delightfully self-aware that it hurts.

“Rise of Pablo Escobear” is based on classic arcade games like Pac-Man. In the game, players take control of the film’s cute but deadly protagonist, Cokey. The goal is to embark on a drug-addled rampage where you can chase down ambulances, eat a ton of people, and do as much coke as you can handle.

The game was announced yesterday via a post from the official “Cocaine Bear” Twitter account. It encourages players to share their…high… scores with the hashtag #cocainebeargame.

The game, as well as the film, are loosely based on the true story of a black bear in the Georgia forest that helped itself to a misplaced duffel bag full of blow.  Unfortunately, the bear in real life passed away due to an overdose. So the film was director Elizabeth Banks giving the bear a revenge story of sorts.  “It just gave me a point of view and a purpose for making it,” Banks said. “Like, there’s a real message here: We should not f— with nature, nature will win.” This is also part of the reason the film also won’t shy away from gore.

“Cocaine Bear” stars Keri Russell, Alden Ehrenreich, O’Shea Jackson Jr., and the late Ray Liotta. It will blow into theaters on February 24th but in the meantime you can check out the game here. You can also check out the film’s trailer below:
