RLJE Films and horror streaming service Shudder have blessed us with a trailer for their “Children of The Corn” remake. The Kurt Wimmer-directed killer kid film was shot during the early days of the pandemic in 2020. It wasn’t until late January of this year, when we got a release date, that we heard any new updates on the project.
The new film promises to be a fresh take on the short story by horror legend Stephen King. This will be the 11th addition to the film franchise. It will also be the first entry since 2018’s “Children of the Corn: Runaway” directed by John Gulager. Though, this film will to have little to no connection with these prior entries.
Wimmer’s “Children of the Corn” will revolve around a 12-year-old girl that’s possessed by the spirit of a dying cornfield. I mean, we all do crazy stuff in our youth, right? She sets out to recruit the other children in her small town in Nebraska to go on a bloody rampage. And like prior films, killing all the adults and anyone else who opposes her. The fate of the town rests on the shoulders of a bright high schooler who won’t go along with the plan.
In the trailer we see a small brunette child, often covered in blood, doing a fantastic Jim Jones impression. In between scenes of kids running amuck, we also see a much taller blonde girl. Who seems to be frequently squaring off against our cornfield-possessed anti-hero. And, of course, there is as much child-on-parent gore as you’d expect from a “Children of The Corn” film.
The new film’s cast includes Elena Kampouris (“Before I Fall”), Kate Moyer (“When Hope Calls”), Callan Mulvey (“Avengers: Endgame”), and Bruce Spence (“The Road Warrior”).
“Children of the Corn” will hit theaters for a limited-time 18-day run on March 3rd. It will then move to on-demand and digital on March 21. Check out the new trailer below:
