Newly returned CEO of Disney, Bob Iger, has announced a new attraction based on the “Avatar” franchise will soon be hitting Disneyland. Dubbed the Avatar Experience, Iger has not disclosed any further details, only stating that they will be “coming soon.”

This could mean, like other twin attractions (Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and classic Disney theme park rides), the Avatar: The World of Pandora offerings at Walt Disney World in Florida are making their way to Anaheim, California. OR, this could be the recent “Avatar The Experience” touring exhibit.

The recent release of James Cameron‘s “Avatar: The Way of Water” has been a huge success, grossing over $2 billion globally and becoming the highest-grossing movie of 2022. With “Avatar 3–5” on the horizon, set for release in 2024, 2026, and 2028 respectively, the franchise shows no signs of slowing down. It’s clear “Avatar” has become a central franchise for Disney, one the company intends to utilize its success across various business ventures and regions.

The visually stunning planet of Pandora is inhabited by the Na’vi, who although appearing primitive, are actually highly evolved beings. The latest installment, The Way of Water, takes place 16 years after the first movie and follows Jake Sully as the chief of the Omatikaya clan, as he raises a family with his partner, Neytiri.

The “Avatar” franchise started with the original movie’s release in 2009, and has since become a cultural phenomenon. Disney’s theme parks continue to be a driving force in the company’s growth, with the division generating close to $8.8 billion in revenue for the first fiscal quarter, a 21% increase and contributing a substantial portion to the company’s operating income.

We’ll let you know what we hear about this and other news. We’re expecting additional details to be revealed during D23 Expo, which will likely take place in July 2023.
