“Wednesday” has been a sensational hit for Netflix. It is the number one watched show on the platform for several weeks. Watching it unfold episode by episode was one of the most fun things, but not for the reasons you might guess. For me, it was watching Wednesday coming out of her shell, little by little, prompted by Enid, the overly cutesy and optimistic werewolf.
Though Wednesday did have a couple of male suitors they all paled to Enid’s sometimes over the top positive energy. Wednesday doesn’t need a broody boyfriend, she’s broody enough on her own. Here’s five reasons we’d love to see Wednesday and Enid couple up in seasons yet to come.
They Challenge Each Other
There are few relationships on screen that really show you what a couple should be. Should you agree all the time? Absolutely not! Challenging each other is fundamental for personal growth. We’re not saying that you should be fighting all the time, but sometimes seeing things through another lens is key. Wednesday has a darker and more realistic approach when it comes to people and situations. Enid is happy to view the world through rose colored glasses.
Hold One Another Accountable
When Wednesday is too impulsive or puts her friends in danger, Enid calls her out. It takes a lot of courage to do that with friends because you might fear a rift in the friendship, but it’s necessary to let them know you care. Sometimes to let them know THEY should care. Wednesday originally operated on a means to an end framework, Enid showed her that’s not how friends treat each other.
Balanced Dynamic
When these two get together they balance each other out in ways that we haven’t seen Wednesday interact with any of her male counterparts in the show. Because Wednesday is more calm and Enid is more energetic they can provide different spaces and teach each other how to decompress in alternate atmospheres. Not only that but being able to banter and figure out difficult situations as they’re unfolding is something that’s needed in succeeding in any situation.
Aesthetically Pleasing
Let’s not beat around the bush too much. These two when they’re together are nice to look at. Enid with her pops of color and light aura. Wednesday with her dour demeanor and all black wardrobe. They look like opposites but in reality they appeal to the eye and make for an interesting couple.
Representation
It’s always nice to see a character that you relate to in relationships that mimic what you consider to be the ideal relationship. Gomez and Morticia have a boiling hot romance and lust for each other. Wednesday reads a little more as ace to viewers. That could mean that her relationships going forward are not as traditional as people are used to watching on tv. It could very well be the case of Enid and her becoming partners and something where romance doesn’t even factor into the equation. But of course for the Enid and Wednesday fans, we hope we get an onscreen kiss, even if it’s accidental.
