Paramount has just released the first trailer for their new horror movie “There’s Something Wrong With the Children.” This killer kid flick is directed by Roxanne Benjamin (“Creepshow”), with a script by T.J. Cimfel (“Intruders”) and Dave White (“V/H/S Viral”).
“There’s Something Wrong With the Children,” tells the tale of two couples taking a weekend trip together. One couple (Carlos Santos and Amanda Crew) has two small children (Briella Guiza and David Mattle). They want to use this trip to work on some marital issues as well as catch up with their friends. They convince the other couple (Alisha Wainwright and Zach Gilford) to watch the kids for a night. Which doesn’t go as planned when they lose track of the children. (Un)fortunately, the kids return after a night in the woods only to begin to behave strangely. This causes them to suspect something supernatural may be at play.

While it’s safe to say Benjamin, Cimfel, and White all have a knack for terror. Benjamin does have a special affinity for the killer kids’ subgenre. “I’ve always had a wariness with kids, just because they’re in their own world, and they don’t necessarily conform to any social norms, there’s something that’s eerie about that” said the director. “Also, I saw The Good Son at a very opportune age where it was just super scary to me. I think they’re just super-fun.”
But despite her wariness, she was blown away by the kids who auditioned for the roles. “The kids were tough,” says the director. “We went through like, 600 auditions for these kids, and then it was just doing call-backs, and seeing how they could handle different situations, just making sure they were comfortable on camera was the biggest thing. I feel so lucky, those kids are so great. And so creepy!”

“There’s Something Wrong With the Children” is part of a larger collaboration between Blumhouse and EPIX. The two companies plan to develop and produce eight elevated, standalone horror/genre-thriller movies exclusively for the network.
“There’s Something Wrong With the Children” will be released on digital and on-demand on January 17th, and MGM+ on March 17th. Check out the first trailer below:
