Wes Anderson’s (“Moonrise Kingdom”) star-studded next film “Asteroid City” finally has a release date. Set in the 1950s in a fictional American town during a Junior Stargazer/Space Cadet convention, the event is meant to bring students and parents from across the country together. But these good intentions are soon dashed by world-changing events.

The story was written (and based on) an idea by Anderson and Roman Coppola. The cast includes Anderson collaborators like Jason Schwartzman, Tilda Swinton, Ed Norton, Adrien Brody, Willem Dafoe, and Jeff Goldblum. There are fresh faces to his heavily stylized universe as well, such as Tom Hanks, Margot Robbie, Scarlett Johansson, Jeffrey Wright, Bryan Cranston, Liev Schreiber, Hope Davis, Stephen Park, Rupert Friend, Maya Hawke, Matt Dillon, Hong Chau, Tony Revolori, Jake Ryan, Grace Edwards, Aristou Meehan, Sophia Lillis, Ethan Lee, and Rita Wilson.

Originally, Bill Murray was attached, but unfortunately had to drop out, reportedly due to Covid-19. His role was taken over by Steve Carell.

“Asteroid City” will have a limited release starting June 16th, 2023, with a much wider theatrical release on June 23rd. Stay tuned to Nerdbot for updates on this and other news.
