Gillian Anderson Joins “Community” Movie [But Not Really]

Fans of “Community” were thrilled to hear a movie was FINALLY confirmed last week. But did you know “X-Files” star Gillian Anderson will be joining the cast? Okay, not really. As a testament to how social media mistakes can happen to anyone when Joel McHale, who played Jeff Winger on the show accidentally tagged the actress in a tweet about the project.

McHale’s post included a popular battle cry among fans of the show; “…AND A MOVIE.” He tagged fellow costars Alison Brie (Annie), Ken Jeong (Ben), Danny Pudi (Abed), Yvette Nicole Brown (Shirley), Donald Glover (Troy). While Brown and Glover are tagged, they are not confirmed as involved in the film. He also tagged affiliates Peacock, Sony TV, and the official “Community” Twitter account.

The mistake happened when he went to tag Gillian Jacobs (Britta) but accidentally used Anderson’s handle instead. An honest mistake considering it looks like Jacobs doesn’t even have a Twitter. Anderson, in keeping with the humor of “Community” as well as her own reputation as a smart ass, tweeted back saying “Gillian Jacobs who? I’m in @joelmchale”

And being a gracious host McHale let her know “Perfect! Costume fitting and table read are next Tuesday.” So there you have it even celebrities make goofs on social media. They just normally don’t result in impromptu casting decisions.
