Match Launches Stir, a Dating App for Single Parents

Are you single and looking to mingle? Do you also have kids and are tired of that being a dealbreaker? Well Match has just announced the specialized dating app for you!

On March 21st, Match officially launched Stir, a dating app for single parents. Considering how niche dating apps are becoming with platforms like JDate and FarmersOnly, it was only a matter of time before someone addressed singles with kids. With 20 million single parents in the US, it’s safe to say the dating pool is rather large. Stir aims to connect and provide a community for a group that often has issues on more traditional dating websites.

“We’re dedicated to giving single parents a dating experience where they are celebrated and feel like they can be themselves. With that, our hope is that they can truly focus on having a personal life beyond navigating parenthood.” says Dinh Thi Bui, Vice President of New Verticals at Match Group. While 90% of single parents aren’t hiding their children on their profiles there is still a lot of stigma attached to it. 20% of single parents have gotten ghosted after someone found out they had kids. And 54% say they have gotten ghosted after the first date. It makes sense that Stir would want to focus on people who have and want kids.

Parents do have their own unique set of needs. One of their biggest challenges is scheduling dates. In fact it’s so much of a challenge that 27% of single parents say coordinating schedules typically prevents them from going on dates. And when asked what they would do with a free extra two hours a week, 45% chose dating. Which was only beat out by the responses ‘exercise’ and ‘self care’ which 53% choose.

To combat this issue, Stir offers an exclusive Stir Time feature, where members can show their ‘me time’ to matches. Making it much easier to see availability and hopefully cut down on endless strings of “does this date work for you?” messages.

Stir is now available for free on the iOS App Store and Google Play.
