After 31 Years, Daytime TV Staple “Maury” to End

One of THE most successful daytime talk shows on air is finally ending. After three decades of being on air, Maury Povich has made a mutual decision with the studio that it’s time for the show to come to an end. Originally, he wanted to retire six years ago but out of loyalty for NBC he was persuaded to stay. This will be the final season for “Maury.”

“Six years ago when I was ready to retire, my the NBCUniversal family asked me to continue the show. Even though I told them I was ready for assisted living, out of loyalty to NBCUniversal and my more than 100 staff and crew members, Tracie Wilson and I agreed to one more deal,” Povich said. “I’m so proud of my relationship with NBCUniversal and all those who worked on the Maury show but as I occasionally tell my guests on Maury, ‘Enough, already!’”

It would seem that this is the end of an era for daytime talk shows. Sure some exist still to this day, but if we’re talking about the “Sally,” “Montel Williams,” and “Maury” era that we’d watch when we stayed home sick from school, it’s over. I suppose after three decades it’s time has come, but we sure will miss watching those paternity tests unfold in real time…. I wonder how much money the paternity test companies made alone off this show.
