Send a Cactus to Your Prickly Ex For Valentine’s Day

Oh Valentine’s Day– an annual date to cherish the feelings you have for a loved one and embrace the joy of being with a person who cares for you. The mail is filled with cards, thoughtful gifts, and boxes of chocolate as distant lovers send affection however they can. And then there’s the vindictive, spiteful exes who were spurned or cheated on and want an innocent way to get the last word in. Well if you’re in that last category, Topo Chico has something to help you with some spiky desert plants.

Name a plant that you can’t hug. It sounds like a “Family Feud” question, doesn’t it? Poison ivy, poison sumac, poison oak; but sending any of those in the mail would probably get you arrested. You know what’s perfectly legal that you CAN send though?

    A cactus!

That’s right, nothing says, “I never want to touch you or come close to you ever again” like sending someone a cactus. …Unless they have a masochistic streak or a cactus fetish, but that’s another topic for another article…

For the surprisingly low price of $2.14 (remember Valentine’s Day is on 2/14), the Topo Chico Hard Seltzer company is selling mini-cacti with cards. Of course it’s a marketing ploy, but what does it have to do with hard seltzer? Well, in this case along with your purchase you also get a coupon for 50% off a 12 pack of Topo Chico Hard Seltzer. The hope of course is that you’ll then try the seltzer because you’re getting it cheaper than normal and so on.

Details about the Valentine’s Cactus are available on Topo Chico’s website:

Sometimes, love can be prickly. Just ask your Ex (or anyone for that matter). Better yet, why not show them with a Prickly Valentine.

For a limited-time, Topo Chico Hard Seltzer is giving you a new way to make a point this Valentine’s Day from one of the most original hard seltzers out there. So you’ll be covered whether you’re sending to a special someone, or a special ex-someone, or even just your mom.

Bolder (and sharper) than your typical bouquet of flowers, each Prickly Valentine comes with a mini-cactus and commemorative card.

On a side-note, because I find it pretty interesting; Topo Chico is actually a sparkling mineral water beverage from Mexico that was purchased by the Coca-Cola company back in 2017. In 2021, Coca-Cola partnered with Molson Coors to make a hard seltzer version of the beverage. The funny part about this is how Molson Coors currently has the Topo Chico Hard Seltzer headquartered in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, which is about the furthest place in the contiguous US, culturally and geographically from Mexico. I’m going to assume that the cacti are not native to Wisconsin.
