Over the weekend, Na Hong-jin (The Wailing) screened his latest sci-fi thriller, Hope, at Cannes. Earlier this morning, distributor Neon released the first action-packed teaser trailer.

Hope stars Hwang Jung-min (Mission: Cross), Zo In-sung (Moving), Hoyeon (Squid Game), Taylor Russell (Bones and All), Cameron Britton (The Umbrella Academy), Alicia Vikander (Ex Machina), and Michael Fassbender (Prometheus).

The film takes place in Hope Harbor, a remote village in South Korea. Police chief Bum-seok (Hwang) and officer Sung-ae (Hoyeon) receive a call about a mysterious creature running amok. At the same time, Sung-ki (Zo) hunts with a group in the nearby woods, only to discover they are the ones being hunted. These bizarre incidents spiral into an all-out cosmic conflict.

Na writes, directs, and produces with Saemi Kim and Saerom Kim for Forged Films. Jeongin Hong executive produces.

And since the entertainment machine never stops turning, Na already has a sequel written. “I think you can readily imagine this sequel,” he said at a press conference earlier this moring. “And there’s a script that’s already been done that I’d like to shoot. So if I have the opportunity, I would indeed make a sequel if possible.”

Neon has Hope set to hit US theaters sometime this fall. We’ll keep you posted on updates about the release and possible sequel as they develop. Check out the first teaser trailer below:
