Curry Barker Want to Turn “Obsession” Into an Anthology Series

As the buzz around Curry Barker’s Obsession grows, all eyes are on a potential follow-up. Despite Barker working on his paranormal movie Anything But Ghosts and the next installment of the long-running Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise, he is still interested in more of the One Wish Willow.

Obsession centers around a mysterious toy called One Wish Willow, which makes the user’s wildest dreams come true. The film mostly revolves around a man who wishes the girl he loves would love him more than anyone else in the world. But we also see another person wish for a billion dollars.

Given that this toy exists and works within the movie, possible sequels are seemingly endless. Giving a slightly modern twist to your typical monkey’s paw tale.

“I obviously have a couple more things that I’m excited about next, but I do see Obsession 2, maybe. Or even, what really is exciting to me, is maybe an anthology. Like a one-hour episode… each episode is a different wish that goes completely off the rails,” Barker tells Total Film.“Maybe I’ll direct the pilot with the same DP, and then you could invite other filmmakers to give their spin at it. That would be really cool.”

Earlier in the same interview, he also admits that the One Wish Willow is “kind of a plot hole” within the universe. Because seriously, if anyone could just buy a toy for $6.99 and have their wildest dreams come true, they probably would. The issue here is everyone’s wishes would clearly start to overlap and change the overall universe as a whole. If not, the full-on fabric of reality.

“The world is pretty normal from what we see,” he explains. “So it doesn’t really make sense. Here’s my take. Every time someone makes a wish, they enter into an alternate reality, where their wish comes true. So you’re not experiencing everybody’s wish at the same time. And that’s why… but then it doesn’t make sense, because the money falls from the ceiling. Yeah, it’s broken.”

Obsession is now playing in theaters nationwide. We’ll keep you posted on Barker’s other upcoming films as the projects develop. You can see Barker’s interview below:
