“House of the Dragon” Season 3 Sets June 21 Premiere Date, Drops New Trailer

House of the Dragon Season 3 officially premieres on June 21, following a recent announcement from HBO. A new trailer released at CCXP Mexico promises big bad battles and lots of death. It also teases the worst war over the Iron Throne yet.

Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, and Fabien Frankel attended Saturday’s international convention at the Citibanamex Center in Mexico City. Showrunner Ryan Condal wasn’t in person, but he appeared in a video segment to unveil the trailer.

“I’m very sad to not be joining you all there, but I’m back here in the U.K., putting the finishing touches on post-production in season three.”

    Ryan Condal said in video

He’s no slouch of a hype man, and he called the new season “a huge season.” He went on to say it’s “the biggest we’ve made by any margin and by a wide measure”, dark, funny, action-packed, emotional, and with “lots and lots of dragons.”

Smith promised “a lot of battles” and said, “this season, we’re trying to make it bigger, bolder, bloodier, more brutal, more dangerous — just get back to the nuts and bolts of what we are as a show.”

The new trailer focuses on two major confrontations. Specifically, it highlights the infamous Battle of the Gullet and a large scale field battle. It also serves to show glimpses of chaos across the third season. The film cuts back and forth between the Targaryens and the hopes of Alicent Hightower in each other’s army. It also features sword slashing, bloodied bodies, and roaring dragons.

Cooke also gave us her take on Alicent’s headspace as the new season begins. She reflected on her character’s broken connection to Rhaenyra, “to hate someone, there has to be a passion that you have to set fire to.”

Season 3 will be out on HBO and HBO Max on Sunday, June 21 at 9 p.m. A new episode will premiere each week through the finale, on August 9. As with the second season, the third season will have eight episodes.

Condal also promised us that it goes “very hot very, very quickly,” in the third season, telling Entertainment Weekly, “the people that were waiting and waiting for all of the horrible, brutal, pitiless bloodshed will be getting it in copious amounts.”

HBO has already announced that it has renewed House of the Dragon for a fourth season, which will debut in 2028 following Season 3, scheduled for this June.

The Game of Thrones prequel series also features Emma D’Arcy, Rhys Ifans and Steve Toussaint.
