“Practical Magic 2” Teaser Trailer Lacks Magic and Practicality

Here at Nerdbot, we’ve been reporting on the upcoming, Practical Magic 2 for a while now. The sequel to the 1998 film has been in the works for a few years. Sandra Bullock, one of the film’s two leads, has been making the press rounds. Warner Bros. has been supporting the project too with a number of press releases and announcements. Now we’ve got a teaser trailer ahead of the film’s September release.

If you didn’t see the first film, this trailer gives you no grounds to really understand what’s happening. It’s a very “fan service” oriented preview. The Owens sisters, played again by Bullock and Nicole Kidman are back in full force. Bullock provides some narration for the teaser and briefly talks a little bit about the Owens family background. Not enough to give a newcomer any clue to what’s happening though. It’s all set to the song “Coconut” by the late, great, Harry Nilsson, which is one of the fan service throwbacks. The song featured in the previous film and its kick-ass soundtrack..

We get two real bits of dialogue. One of them is about the Owens family curse killing men they love. The other involves the fact that a man was killed in the events of the previous film. What does any of this have to do with the sequel? No idea. Not explained. We can presume that something is happening with the offspring of the family though. There are kids joining Bullock’s Sally and Kidman’s Gillian. We also see a little spellcraft wafting off of hands and some more random imagery.

Being that it’s a teaser, there’s only so much one can expect to be revealed. This is below even those expectations though. The remix of “Coconut” is great. It has that going for it. Sure is nice to see Bullock and Kidman standing next to each other too. It’s the kind of trailer that will hit a pleasant heartstring for those especially fond of the first. It’s not likely to impress anyone outside of that though. Unless you’re a Harry Nilsson fan. Obviously.

The trailer is burying the lede here though. One of the standout parts of the original film was the presence of Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest as the aunts of Sally and Gillian. Bullock and Kidman may be the big names, but Channing and Wiest gave the film the oomph that made it a cut above fantasy fare. Throw them in the next trailer and maybe we’ll see some more magic.

Practical Magic 2 releases on September 11th, 2026. You can watch the teaser trailer down below.
