Everything’s coming up “Golden” for “KPop Demon Hunters.” The intensely popular animated film has been earning accolades left and right since it released on Netflix in June of 2025. Between costumes, toys, soundtrack sales, and critical awards, it’s a juggernaut that can’t really be stopped. It’s nominated for two upcoming Academy Awards, including Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song. Winning either of those will induct it into an elite class of films, but it’s also attained that status in a different way thanks to Criterion.

What a Criterion Collection Release Really Means

When it comes to the preservation and presentation of movies, the Criterion Collection is as big as it gets. Criterion selects films that have significant artistic and cultural worth for the sake of preserving them. They also help furnish high quality releases of them for home media. Being added to this collection is a pretty big deal. It’s not something you normally see so quickly after a film has been released. To put it in another way, this is a group of films that has seven titles from David Lynch in it, and only two from Michael Bay.

What We Know About the Physical Release So Far

So far, there’s been no details about what kind of home release “KPop Demon Hunters” is going to get. The fact that it is a Netflix streaming exclusive may have factored into Criterion’s decision. Them selecting it may be to try and establish a large release for it. Obviously, Netflix isn’t the biggest fan of physical media though they have seen several of their exclusive projects get physical media releases. Once we have more information on what Criterion’s plans are, we’ll let you know.

Until that time, you can still enjoy the adventures of Rumi, Mira, and Zoey as they battle demons. Fighting both internal and external demons, while they belt out a series of absolute bangers. And if you’re rooting for them to pick up some Oscar gold you can find out if they pick up any of their two trophies on March 15th, 2026.
