“South Park” Writer Buys Trump-Kennedy Center Website

Earlier this year, Donald Trump fired most of the board of trustees for the Kennedy Center to install his own, hand-picked group. Soon after, he decided to rename the well-respected theater to The Donald J. Trump and The John F. Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts.

Noticing his pension for putting his name on everything, former “South Park” writer and activist Toby Morton devised a plan.  In August, the comedian bought the domains “trumpkennedycenter.org” and “trumpkennedycenter.com.”

“As soon as Trump began gutting the Kennedy Center board earlier this year, I thought, ‘Yep, that name’s going on the building,’” Morton told The Washington Post.

At the time of this writing, the venue’s official website remains kennedy-center.org. However, Trump’s name is prominent on the landing page.

Currently, both of Morton’s domains only show generic landing pages generated by the web host GoDaddy.  “[What they show now] isn’t intentional content on my part and will disappear once the domains are pointed to active hosting,” he tells USA Today.

Morton is a self-described “creator of anti-fascist websites” with a track record of sitting on domain names to satirize public figures. In the past, he has purchased domains for Marjorie Taylor Greene, Andrew Cuomo, and Joel Osteen.

While this kind of thing gets its fair share of nasty remarks, this move seems to be getting positive feedback.

“I’m so used to hate comments that these from the Washington Post article feel downright refreshing,” he posted to Instagram alongside an image praising his work. “Also, a few longtime heroes of mine are quietly on board now, which helps. PRO TIP: Maybe don’t mess with an institution like The Kennedy Center? The support is growing. Watch this space.”

We’ll keep you posted on updates about this situation as it develops.
