Gary Whitta Ready to “See You in Hell” With New Secret Project

“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” and “Book of Eli” writer Gary Whitta is ready to “See You In Hell” and skewer the Hollywood studio system, and he’s bringing some famous friends with him. He’s announced a new secret project, and we have the exclusive with the details.

    Some of the talent involved:

    • “Westworld” and “The Last of Us Part II” star Shannon Woodward
    • “The Newsroom” and “Life in Pieces” star Thomas Sadoski
    • “Trap” and “Star Trek: Picard” star Alison Pill
    • “Two and a Half Men” and “Superman IV: The Quest for Peace” star Jon Cryer
    • “Heroes” and “Felicity” star Greg Grunberg
    • “The League” star and host of “How Did This Get Made” and “Unspooled” Paul Scheer
    • “Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure” and “Waiting for Godot” star Alex Winter
    • “Star Wars” and “Pacific Rim Uprising” star John Boyega
    • “Star Trek” legend Jonathan Frakes

We had the chance to speak to Whitta about the genesis of the project:

“Given the abject state of the TV market generally right now and the nature of this piece in particular it was obvious that no-one was ever going to buy the show, much less make it, so I decided to just make it myself. The hope is that this first episode generates enough interest that I can maybe crowd-fund an entire season. We’ll see.”

He’s also not pulling any punches with this one. Whitta told us:

“It’s been really liberating and honestly so good for my mental health to actually make something for once, rather than constantly putting together pitches and writing specs in the hopes that someone else will let me make something. As an audio project I was able to keep the budget small enough to self-fund it, which means — for better or worse — I was answerable to  no-one in terms of creative notes. So the show is pretty unfiltered in terms of the shots it takes.”

Whitta is no stranger to finding success with delightful unorthodox projects. In 2020 he hosted the virtual talk show “Animal Talking” which took place entirely via “Animal Crossing.” Guests for that included the likes of Selena Gomez, Brie Larson, Sting, Danny Trejo, T-Pain, Josh Gad and more. Several of the “Animal Talking” guests are amongst the cast of “See You In Hell.” He also self produced an entire sci-fi epic podcast / book “Gundog.”

“See You In Hell” launches January 2026. Follow Gary Whitta for updates!
