Can’t Play Battlefield 6? Here’s How to Enable Secure Boot Step-by-Step

When you start up Battlefield 6, you are about to fight, when a message pops up and freezes you down: “Secure boot must be enabled”. It is a more widespread problem than it might seem. It is one of the roadblocks experienced by many players after the installation or update of Windows 11, and the only solution is to learn how to enable secure boot for Battlefield 6.

Once you learn about Secure Boot and how it functions, the fix is easy to achieve. Within this guide, you will get to know how to enable Secure Boot on Battlefield 6 using a step-by-step checklist: first, you have to check out your current setup, prepare your system (MBR→GPT conversion may be required), enable Secure Boot in the BIOS, and ensure it is functional.

There is one main precaution that you should keep in mind beforehand: it is necessary to make a copy of your data to continue with the process of partitioning or making some changes in the BIOS.

Part 1. Quick Triage: Check Secure Boot state in Windows

Before diving into conversions or BIOS menus, let’s find out whether Secure Boot is already on.

Here is how you can check Secure Boot State in Windows:

1.Press “Win + R” on your keyboard and type “msinfo32” then press “Enter” to run it.

2.Check the status of Secure Boot.

    • If it says On, Secure Boot is already active, your Battlefield 6 issue may lie elsewhere, like anti-cheat or GPU drivers.
    • If it says Off or Unsupported, continue with this guide.

Part 2. Why Battlefield 6 needs Secure Boot

Games in the modern world, such as Battlefield 6, have increased their security. Secure Boot is not an OS environment but rather a protection that ensures that malware code or unsigned bootloaders are not loaded prior to Windows booting. This feature is crucial to the work of anti-cheat systems to provide a fair gameplay experience.

Think of it like this: Secure Boot is the bouncer, and UEFI with GPT is the club’s guest list. Only systems formatted correctly and booting safely get past the door.

    Here’s the connection:

    • Battlefield 6 requires Secure Boot for anti-cheat integrity.
    • Secure Boot requires UEFI boot mode (not Legacy).
    • UEFI mode usually needs a GPT partition style on your system disk.

In case you have an MBR on your drive, BIOS will not even display the Secure Boot option, and you will get the Secure Boot Requirement Battlefield 6 error. This is the reason why it is important to know the difference between UEFI and Legacy BIOS before making any attempts.

Part 3. Prepare: Check UEFI vs Legacy & Partition Style (MBR/GPT)

Now that you know the importance, here is the process to check the two key things:

    UEFI Mode:

Check whether your system boots in UEFI mode or not with the following steps:

1.Open your Windows Settings and go to “Update & Security”.

2.Now, go to the “Recovery” option and click “Restart Now” under Advanced Startup to choose “Troubleshoot”.

3.Click “UEFI Firmware settings” to confirm the boot type of your system

Secondly, checking the partition style is crucial, as you may need to convert MBR to GPT if you are using the wrong partition.

    Partition Style:

Check whether your system uses MBR or GPT partition style with these steps:

1.Press “WIN + X” on your keyboard and go to “Disk Management”

2.Right-click on your “Disk 0” and go to “Properties”, then “Volumes”

Always back up essential data before proceeding. Converting partitions can be safe, but it’s still best practice.

Part 4. Convert MBR → GPT Safely

If your disk is MBR, Secure Boot cannot be enabled until it’s converted to GPT. It can be done in two main ways: by the built-in mbr2gpt.exe command or a dedicated disk utility. Although MBR2GPT is a working tool, it may be daunting and sometimes not effective in case of disk partitions being set up incorrectly.

It is here that 4DDiG Partition Manager provides an easier-to-approach, graphical alternative. It offers a single-click interface, which is safe and allows you to transform MBR into GPT without losing any data, allowing you to preview changes first. You can easily convert MBR to GPT without data loss using 4DDiG Partition Manager:

Step-1: Install and launch the program. Click “Convert Disk” and then select “MBR to GPT“.

Step-2: Choose the disk that you want to convert and click “Continue” then “Sure” in the pop-up window.

Step-3: Once the conversion is successful, follow the on-screen steps and click “Reboot”

If you’re not confident with manual commands, this approach guarantees a smoother, safer transition. If unsure, make a full system image or use the Windows System Image tool before applying major changes.

Once your drive is converted to GPT, you’re ready to move on to enabling Secure Boot in BIOS.

Part 5. How to Enable Secure Boot in BIOS

With your drive now GPT and your system ready for UEFI, it’s time to follow these steps to enable Secure Boot.

How to open BIOS Windows 11?

1.Reboot your PC and repeatedly tap your BIOS key:

    a.DEL/F2 for ASUS or MSI

    b.F10 for HP

c.F12 or ESC for Lenovo or Dell

d.(If unsure, search your motherboard brand’s BIOS key.)

2.Once inside BIOS, go to the “Boot” or “Security” tab.

3.Ensure “UEFI mode” is enabled and “CSM (Compatibility Support Module)” is disabled.

4.Find “Secure Boot”, then toggle it to “Enabled” and if prompted for a Secure Boot Mode, choose “Standard”, then Save & Exit.

Your PC will restart, boot into Windows, open msinfo32, and verify that Secure Boot State now reads “On.”

Warning:  Enabling Secure Boot may block older or unsigned drivers. Make sure you have updated versions of your GPU and peripheral drivers ready before turning it on.

Part 6. Troubleshooting: Secure Boot greyed out, CSM, drivers

Sometimes the Secure Boot option is greyed out even after conversion.

    Here’s how to fix that:

    • If Secure Boot is greyed out, make sure the disk uses GPT and CSM is disabled.
    • If it’s still inaccessible, reset your BIOS to defaults or update your UEFI firmware (BIOS update).
    • Some systems require enabling OEM Secure Boot keys first; look for an Install Default Keys option.
    • If Battlefield 6 still refuses to launch after enabling Secure Boot, check for anti-cheat or driver updates, then restart your PC.

These steps resolve most secure boot not enabled fix or secure boot greyed out fix situations.

    Part 7. FAQ

1.Will converting MBR to GPT erase my files?

Not if done properly. Tools like MBR2GPT or 4DDiG Partition Manager can convert MBR to GPT without data loss. Still, always back up your important files first.

2.Do I have to reinstall Windows after enabling Secure Boot?

No. As long as your system boots in UEFI mode with a GPT disk, Windows will continue running normally.

3.After enabling Secure Boot, Battlefield 6 still won’t run – now what?

Update your anti-cheat, GPU drivers, and verify game files in your launcher before relaunching.

    Conclusion

You now know how to enable Secure Boot step by step. Starting from checking your status to preparing your disk, converting safely, toggling the BIOS setting, and verifying it in Windows and the game.

If you ever have any problems, such as Secure Boot being greyed out or unsupported, it will always be based on this: the trick is simply to turn your system disk to GPT and make sure that UEFI mode is turned on.
