You may think you’ve seen Stanley Kubrick’s “The Shining,” but have you seen it in IMAX? Well, if you answered “yes,” we all know you’re a big liar, because the film has never been shown in IMAX…until now…
Kubrick’s 1980s adaptation of Stephen King’s 1977 novel will be hitting the big screen once again, but this time bigger, and in higher definition.

“The Shining” centers around writer Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson), a recovering alcoholic who accepts a job as the winter caretaker for a hilltop hotel in the Rocky Mountains. Between the location and a heavy snowstorm, Jack, his wife Wendy (Shelley Duvall), and their son Danny (Danny Lloyd) soon become completely isolated. Slowly but surely, Jack begins to lose his grip on reality, haunted by the ghosts of the hotel’s dark past.
IMAX has not shared technical details of the release yet. They will, most likely, remaster the picture and sound for the larger screen, while preserving the original cut.
“The Shining” will hit IMAX theaters on December 12, 2025. You can sign up to be notified when tickets go on sale here. And be sure to check out the trailer below:
