Two bits of news from the world of “Doctor Who.” The first isn’t great, but has a silver lining. The second is more of a positive note, but won’t make you forget the first thing. Disney+ is ending their official partnership with long-running science fiction children’s series “Doctor Who” after the premiere of spinoff “The War Between the Land and the Sea.” BUT, following that, the BBC will pick up the franchise again.
And, Russell T. Davies is working on writing an all-new Christmas special for the series that’ll air in 2026.

“We’d like to thank Disney+ for being terrific global partners and collaborators over the past two seasons, and for the upcoming ‘The War Between the Land and the Sea,'” BBC Director of Drama Lindsay Salt said. “The BBC remains fully committed to Doctor Who, which continues to be one of our most loved dramas, and we are delighted that Russell T Davies has agreed to write us another spectacular Christmas special for 2026. We can assure fans, the Doctor is not going anywhere, and we will be announcing plans for the next series in due course which will ensure the TARDIS remains at the heart of the BBC.”
