Filmmaker Brad Bird has made some of Pixar’s most beloved animated titles, like “The Incredibles” and “Ratatouille.” In 2022, it was announced that Bird would be working on an animated sci-fi passion project called “Ray Gunn.” Then, like these things often do, the project went silent, until now …

During the “A Bug’s Life” reunion panel at FanX Salt Lake Comic Convention, Pixar Veteran voice actor John Ratzenberger said he has recorded dialogue for the new film. While that is an incredibly small update, it does show that “Ray Gunn” is still alive to some degree.
Little is known about the plot for “Ray Gunn at this time, but it’s described as a high-concept sci-fi detective movie. It reportedly centers around a human investigator in a world populated almost completely by aliens.
When it was announced, Skydance Animation was on board to produce, under the direction of former Pixar executive John Lasseter. “Top Gun: Maverick” producer David Ellison and “World War Z” producer Dana Goldberg were also attached. If Skydance is still attached, that will more than likely mean that “Ray Gunn” is destined for a Netflix premiere, given the studio’s distribution deal with the streamer.
It’s also now assumed that Bird stepped down from directing “The Incredibles 3″ due to time commitments for “Ray Gunn.”
Neither “Ray Gunn” nor “The Incredibles 3” has any projected release windows. We’ll keep you posted on updates about both of Bird’s projects as they develop.
