Looks like the horror genre is eating its own tail again (which isn’t always a bad thing) with a new crop of modern takes on classic monster movies. Warner Bros. Pictures has released a teaser for “The Bride,” based on James Whale’s film “Bride of Frankenstein” and Mary Shelley’s 1818 novel “Frankenstein.”
Maggie Gyllenhaal will both write and direct the upcoming film.

“The Bride” follows Frankenstein’s monster as he travels to 1930s Chicago to seek the aid of Dr. Euphronius. He believes that the doctor can help create a companion for him. The duo are able to bring a murdered young woman back to life, and the Bride is born.
She ends up being way more than they expected, though. Not only does she and “Frank” have a whirlwind romance, but she ends up catching the attention of the police and a radical social movement.
The movie will star Jessie Buckley as the titular character, Christian Bale as the monster, and Penélope Cruz as Myrna. Annette Bening, Peter Sarsgaard, Julianne Hough, and Jake Gyllenhaal will also star. This will be Gyllenhaal’s second feature-length directorial effort, following 2021’s “The Lost Daughter,” which garnered three Academy Award nominations.
“The Bride” hits theaters on March 6, 2026. You can check out the teaser trailer below:
