Disney Teases “Frozen 3” Plot, New Family Member?!

During Disney‘s Consumer Products Division Launch Conference in Shanghai, China, the company revealed some key plot moments for “Frozen 3!” It sounds like some big changes are coming to the franchise.

“In this new chapter, witness the wedding of the century in Arendelle as Queen Anna walks down the aisle and joins Elsa on a new magical journey filled with unknown challenges,” reads a translated post to Disney’s WeChat Profile. “And what’s even more exciting: the royal family is about to welcome a mysterious new member!”

Possible New Members For “Frozen 3”

Now, in a universe where sentient snowmen are possible, this new member could mean any number of things. Given that Queen Anna (Kristen Bell) and Kristoff (Jonathan Groff) are to be wed, the prevailing fan theory is that the new addition is a baby. If this is the case, it will make Anna the first Disney princess to have a baby in 25 years!

The last time was in 2000 with the release of the “Little Mermaid” sequel, “The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea.” In that straight-to-home-video movie, we meet Melody, the daughter of Ariel and Eric. If Anna does have a baby in “Frozen 3,” it would be the first time a Disney Princess has become a mom in a theatrical release.

The other prevailing theory is Elsa (Idina Menzel) finding a love interest, which is another big, but logical, step. Elsa’s sexuality has been the subject of a lot of debate since “Frozen” hit theaters in 2013. The character isn’t shown to be attracted to any particular gender, which leads many to speculate that she’s a lesbian. If that is the case, it would make Elisa the first openly gay Disney princess.

Or neither of these theories is correct, and Disney is referring to Kristoff in an intentionally misleading way. Whatever the new addition to the “Frozen” franchise is, it’s going to have to be big.

“Frozen 3” is currently slated to hit theaters in 2027. In the meantime, you can stream the first two films on Disney+.
