“Sesame Street” Finds New Home at Netflix, Will Remain on PBS

Are you ready to chase the clouds away with some good news? Well, buckle up because Netflix has acquired the streaming rights to “Sesame Street!” The partnership will have the streamer premiere new episodes and host the show’s expansive back catalog.

New episodes will continue to air in the U.S. on local PBS stations, as well.

So those without Netflix will not lose access; the streamer is just picking up the digital end of things. Sesame Workshop has been actively looking for a new virtual hub since Warner Bros. Discovery opted out of distribution in 2024.

Funding for the show mostly comes from distribution, licensing, and some from viewers like you.  But with PBS stations in danger of losing government funding, this deal with Netflix allows the series a more stable income as it enters its 56th season.

We’ll keep you posted on updates about the “Sesame Street” and Netflix partnership as the situation develops. You can check out the announcement on X (formerly Twitter) below:

We are excited to announce that all new Sesame Street episodes are coming to @netflix worldwide along with library episodes, and new episodes will also release the same day on @PBS Stations and @PBSKIDS platforms in the US, preserving a 50+ year relationship.
