Brett Goldstein Compares More “Ted Lasso” to a Dead Cat

Apple TV+’s “Ted Lasso” was a huge hit with audiences. So when it ended in 2023 with its 3rd season, many fans almost immediately began clamoring for more. Now that the show is being officially revived with a 4th season, the cast has some serious thoughts about it.

Namely, Brett Goldstein, who writes for the series, and stars as Roy Kent.

When asked about the new season of “Ted Lasso,” Goldstein confirmed it is “in the writers’ room at the moment.” Then he compared it to when his friend thought he had brought his cat back from the dead.

“I have a friend that I went to university with, and I think about this a lot,” he said on the Wild Card podcast. “He had a cat that died. He loved his cat, and the cat was run over, and they buried the cat, buried it. And he was a child. They buried the cat in the garden, and he lay in bed so sad, so upset and crying, and he prayed and he prayed and he wished. ‘I wish the cat would come back.’ And then the cat did come back, and it turned out the cat they buried wasn’t their cat. And I think about that all the time.”

“And so, I’m like, no wonder this guy is fucked in the head, because he thinks death isn’t real, so of course he’s insane,” Goldstein added. “He’s such a weird guy, cause he thinks he can bring things back from the dead.”

    Goldstein Explains

As… unique as that comparison is, Goldstein further explains the hubris of Apple greenlighting a 4th season. Mainly because “Ted Lasso” co-creators Jason Sudeikis, Bill Lawrence, Brendan Hunt, and Joe Kelly only intended for it to run for 3 seasons.

“I guess I’m saying I feel like that kid,” he elaborated. “Like ‘We buried it… We all cried, we had a funeral. Are you saying we can bring anything back?’ It’s too much power.”

Goldstein, Sudeikis, Hannah Waddingham, Juno Temple, and Jeremy Swift have all confirmed they will reprise their various roles for the upcoming season. We just hope it lives up to the necromantic hype.

We’ll keep you posted on updates about “Ted Lasso” season 4 as the project develops. You can watch the interview with Goldstein below:
