“Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” mainstay Mariska Hargitay is making her feature film directorial debut with the HBO documentary “My Mom Jane.” The film has the Emmy-winning actress exploring the life of her mother Jayne Mansfield, who she lost when she was very young.

“My Mom Jane” seeks to have Hargitay know, understand, and embrace her mother for the first time. Mansfield’s story will be told through intimate interviews and a collection of never-before-seen photos and home movies.
“This movie is a labor of love and longing,” Hargitay said in a press release. “It’s a search for the mother I never knew, an integration of a part of myself I’d never owned, and a reclaiming of my mother’s story and my own truth. I’ve always believed there is strength in vulnerability, and the process of making this film has confirmed that belief like never before.”
Mansfield is a Hollywood icon who became famous in the 1950s. In 1958, she married Mickey Hargitay, a Mr. Universe winner and the pair starred in several movies together. They split up in 1964 after having three children. Hargitay was only 3 years old when her mother died in a horrific car accident at just 34 years old.
“My Mom Jane” will hit Max sometime this June. We’ll keep you posted on updates about this documentary as they become available.
