Legendary actor Alan Cumming is coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) as Nightcrawler in “Avengers: Doomsday.” Cumming originally portrayed the blue-skinned heavily tattooed superhero in 2003’s “X2: X-Men United.” According to the actor, the makeup team on “Doomsday” has really nailed the intricate makeup that the character requires.

“Isn’t it nuts? I’m excited and amazed,” Cumming said on “Today With Jenna and Friends.” “It’s been 23 years since I was a superhero. I’ve had some makeup tests already for the role, but what’s great about it was that before it was about four and a half hours to apply it, but now it’s only 90 minutes.”
“Before, all of the tattoos were done by hand,” he explained. “They hadn’t decided on them before we started filming. Now, they just stick onto my face. It’s a game changer. I’m going back to being a 60-year-old superhero, and everyone seems really lovely.”
“Doomsday” will be bringing back a slew of “X-Men” alumni including Sir Patrick Stewart, Sir Ian McKellen, James Marsden, Rebecca Romijn, and Kelsey Grammer. They will star alongside Chris Hemsworth, Vanessa Kirby, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Leticia Wright, Paul Rudd, Wyatt Russell, Tenoch Huerta Mejía, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Simu Liu, Florence Pugh, Lewis Pullman, Danny Ramirez, Joseph Quinn, David Harbour, Winston Duke, Hannah John-Kamen, Tom Hiddleston, Channing Tatum, Pedro Pascal, and Robert Downey Jr..
“Avengers: Doomsday” is slated to hit theaters on May 1st, 2026. We’ll keep you posted on updates about this movie as they become available. You can watch a clip from Cumming’s the interview below:
