THE FLASH CELEBRATES 85TH ANNIVERSARY WITH NEW LIMITED EDITION PEN CELEBRATING THE JUSTICE LEAGUE’S SCARLET SPEEDSTER FROM WARNER BROS. DISCOVERY & MONTEGRAPPA

First appearing back in 1940, fans of the Flash have a new reason to celebrate the Scarlett Speedster on his 85th anniversary with a new limited edition line of writing instruments from Montegrappa. Honoring one of entertainment’s most legendary superheroes, the fastest member of the Justice League is finely represented with a striking new collection of handcrafted writing instruments manufactured by Montegrappa and officially licensed by Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products (WBDGCP). Made in bright crimson and gold, the new line of fountain pens and rollerballs are now available for fans at select boutiques worldwide, including Central City.

Classic craftsmanship meets iconic design on The Flash pen, a super hero worthy writing instrument. Created in partnership with WBDGCP, limited editions of 330 fountain pens and rollerballs combine advanced machining, materials and handcraft in an all-original silhouette that channels the futuristic on-screen character design of The Flash.

Crimson resin and golden enamel combine in an epic design that takes its cues from the eponymous superhero’s high-tech speed suit: devised to withstand friction at the most extreme velocities. The pen’s lightly tapered silhouette features a seamless, one-piece barrel and deep-lasered fissures with a fine-line enamel fill that echoes the golden glow caused when forensic scientist, Barry Allen, invokes his Speed Force powers. All-over Turing-pattern tattoo engraving further embraces the modern, big-screen look of comic culture’s ‘Fastest Man Alive’.

External hardware used on the design is made from sterling silver and detailed extensively with vermeil. A centrepiece element is a miniature, two-tone cap disc which has been precision-engraved in high relief to emulate Barry Allen’s Costume Ring: the mechanical signet that houses his flameproof suit. Beneath, a chevron clip and slimline cap band brandish the fast-forward motif featured on the character’s boots, while markings on the pen’s grip section reference the distortion waves of the Doppler Effect.

Engineered to meet the expectations of writing instrument connoisseurs, fountain pens feature a professional-grade, ø6mm custom nib in 18K yellow gold emblazoned with the Super Hero’s iconic, lightning-bolt emblem. Rollerballs also carry custom-engraving on all-vermeil grip sections and cones. Numbered editions of 330 pieces reference to the speed of Mach 3.3 – and are supplied in deluxe collector cases finished with high-gloss crimson lacquer.

Codes used on the design typify the originality and audacity that have made Montegrappa one of the world’s most recognisable pen makers. The manufacture’s maximalist designs use a level of storytelling detail that has endeared it to pop culture collectors and helped elevate the profile and desirability of analogue writing instruments in a digital era.

All Montegrappa writing instruments are manufactured by hand at the company’s headquarters, located beneath Monte Grappa in Bassano del Grappa, Italy. Artisan-operated since 1912, Montegrappa’s historic factory combines expert craftsmanship with state-of-the-art machinery and tooling to continually push the limits of writing instrument design.

Priced from €2,395 ($2,583) Montegrappa’s The Flash writing instrument collection will be available from department stores, fine stationers, watch and jewelry boutiques and via www.montegrappa.com.
