In 2021, the first issue of “BRZRKR,” written by Keanu Reeves and Eisner-nominee Matt Kindt, with art by Ron Garney, hit comic shops. According to publisher BOOM!, it has since sold 3.5 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling comic books of the past decade. In 2024, the “BRZRKR” novel “The Book of Elsewhere” by Reeves and China Miéville became a New York Times best-seller.
Of course, that means it’s getting the live-action adaptation treatment. Netflix has confirmed Justin Lin (“F9: The Fast Saga”) will direct “BRZRKR.” Lin will be working from a script by Mattson Tomlin (“The Batman 2”), who’s also developing an anime spinoff.

“BRZRKR”
Reeves is already slated to star in and produce “BRZRKR.” The movie is reported to be a “brutally epic saga about an immortal warrior’s 80,000 year fight through the ages,” per Netflix and BOOM!. “The man known only as ‘B’ is half-mortal and half-god, cursed and compelled to violence, even at the sacrifice of his sanity. But after wandering the earth for centuries, B may have finally found a refuge — working for the U.S. government to fight the battles too violent and too dangerous for anyone else. In exchange, B will be granted the one thing he desires — the truth about his endless blood-soaked existence … and how to end it.”
Producers on the project also include Lin via his Perfect Storm banner, Stephen Christy for Boom! Studios, Stephen Hamel of Company Films, and Ross Richie. Adam Yoelin is executive producing for Boom!.
Lin and Reeves previously worked together on the director’s film “Last Days.” When the indie project had some major sources of funding fall through, Reeves stepped in.
“I think with that being an independent film process and journey, you have angels that come,” Lin told Collider about Reeves. “In our case, for a year, we thought we had our financing, and I met some people, and it turned out not to be true. It’s one of those darkest moments where I felt like, ‘I tried my best. We tried.’ I felt really bad because Sky [Yang, the film’s lead] was already prepping, and I’m like, ‘Oh, I think that’s it…’”
“Last Days” premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January.
There is no set release window for “BRZRKR” just yet. We’ll keep you posted on updates as the project develops.
