Nicolas Cage Thriller “The Surfer” Get First Trailer, Poster

It’s been at least a few months since we’ve had a really intense performance from Nicolas Cage (“Longlegs”). Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions are here to fill that void with their new psychological thriller “The Surfer.” The companies just released the first trailer and poster for the film (see below).

“The Surfer” is directed by Lorcan Finnegan (“Vivarium”) from a script by Thomas Martin (“White Widow”). It centers around a man (Cage) returning to his hometown in Australia with his son. Of course, the first thing he wants to do is re-visit the beach he grew up around. However, a group of local surfers don’t take too kindly to that and humiliate him while claiming ownership of the beach. Feeling the blow to his ego, the surfer decides to stay on the beach, declaring an all out war with the locals. As you can imagine, the stakes spin wildly out of control in a way that only someone like Cage could pull off.

The trailer establishes some of these plot points before becoming a dense chaotic mess of tension and implied horrors. Like most tense psychological thrillers, it’s all about the atmosphere and has to be seen to be fully felt.

Cage stars alongside Julian McMahon, Nic Cassim, Miranda Tapsell, Alexander Bertrand, Justin Rosniak, Rahel Romahn, Finn Little, and Charlotte Maggi.

“The Surfer” will hit theaters on May 2nd, 2025. You can check out the intense first trailer below:
