MGM+’s upcoming adaptation of “Robin Hood” has an exciting new addition to the cast. Australian newcomer Jack Patten will play everyone’s favorite man in tights! And when we say he is new on the scene, we mean it. He just graduated from the National Institute of Dramatic Arts in Sydney in 2023, and this will be his first role on the small screen.
But if that name does sound familiar, he also just grabbed the lead in Patrick Hughes’ ”War Machine” for Netflix.
“We are very excited to cast Jack Patten in his first television series leading role,” says Michael Wright, head of MGM+. “We knew immediately when we saw him that he was our ideal Robin and uniquely able to bring to life this iconic character. Jack brings unique charisma and heart to this new iteration of the classic romantic adventure of a rogue outlaw who steals from the rich to care for the poor and finds his soul mate in the equally powerful Marian.”
“Robin Hood”
This will be a 10-episode mini-series with Jonathan English directing the pilot. John Glenn will be acting as showrunner, with Todd Lieberman executive producing for Hidden Pictures.
The series is set after the Norman invasion of England. We will follow Rob (Patten), a Saxon forester’s son, as he falls in love with Marian, the daughter of a Norman lord. Their passion will unite them to fight for justice and freedom. Rob’s dedication will put him at the head of a band of outlaws, while Marian infiltrates the courts. The couple band together to thwart royal corruption and bring peace to the land.
“Robin Hood” is described as a sweeping and romantic adventure. Putting more of a modern spin on the timeless tale. It seeks to focus more on the relationship between Robin and Marian, to add more psychological depth to the legendary characters.
