“An Interpol agent races to stop a renegade Shaolin Master armed with the deadliest biological weapon ever manufactured.” If that doesn’t peak your interest let me elaborate. Black Salt- The Last Heroes Left, a comic written by Chad Boudreau and illustrated by J.C. Grande is one that seasoned comic book fans won’t want to miss. If you love kung Fu, underdogs and drama this book is for you.

This story is an epic thriller merging the world of modern-day espionage and political intrigue with the ancient world of martial arts. Samuel Tharpe is a counter terrorism agent for Interpol. For years, he has hunted down and foiled the twisted plans of the world’s most dangerous criminal organizations, crime lords, warmongers, and anarchists. But Sam is no ordinary agent. As an orphaned child he was raised and trained secretly outside the temple walls, one of the lost arts of Shaolin by the legendary Master Yu Bai Shek. Sam is a master of many weapons and can do incredible athletic feats that border on superhuman. He is even able to generate extremely high levels of chi energy that he uses in offensive attacks.

If this sounds interesting to you, they’re also working on a film! Check it out!

    The Story

In the past, as children, Samuel Lincoln Tharpe and Huan Li meet in Dengfeng, China. Tragedy will strike both. Sam’s mom dies of illness. Li’s Mom is kidnapped. Sam wants to learn the ways of Shaolin even though monks are forbidden to teach outsiders the ancient arts. Then Sam meets Yu Bai Shek, a Shaolin Master who sees greatness in Sam and thus decides to train him in secret.

In the present, Kali, a renegade Shaolin Master, is hell-bent on bringing the world to its knees. He has secretly taught forbidden Shaolin techniques to his band of followers. His students practice these fatal techniques on hostages. One such victim is Li’s mom. Li vows vengeance, but Kali has fled the country.

Now, Sam and Li, elite government operatives, are in the midst of a firefight with well-equipped terrorists. Sam kills the apparent leader, but the villains escape with a vial of M.A.R.S., the deadliest biological weapon ever manufactured. And worse, Kali learns that Agent Sam Tharpe killed his son during the mission. In retribution, with the help of a traitor inside the government agency, Kali kills Sam’s wife and daughter, but Sam’s three sons escape.

Sam returns to the Shaolin Temple and asks the monks to protect his sons, revealing he was once a student of Yu Bai Shek. When the Abbot asks for proof, Sam reveals himself as “Black Salt,” a name given by Yu Bai Shek when Sam completed his training. The Abbot says that he’s been waiting for Sam to return to face Shaolin. The Abbot and the Temple agree to protect Sam’s sons.

The elite American assault team surrounds a weapons facility where they believe Kali makes weapons grade M.A.R.S. But it’s a trap. Kali gains the upper hand when he reveals to Sam and Li the identity of their traitor: Bernie Tombs, Sam’s boss, and brother-in-law. Sam and Li barely escape with their lives. Back in America, Sam confronts Tombs. Along the way, we learn of a shared history between Sam and Li and this evil Shaolin Master, Kali. The forbidden past and the tumultuous present collide in Black Salt- The Last Heroes Left, a martial arts thriller.
