In February, news broke of multi-Oscar winning director Sam Mendes (“1917”) making FOUR biopics about music legends The Beatles. Instead of one film focusing on the band, the projects will show their meteoric rise from the perspective of members John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr.
Starr has confirmed that Barry Keoghan (“Saltburn”) will be playing him on the film.
During an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Starr confirmed Keoghan is already picking up the sticks. “I think it’s great,” Starr said about Keoghan’s casting. “I believe he’s somewhere taking drum lessons, and I hope not too many.”
Mendes’ quartet of films is being done with the full blessing of the surviving Beatles McCartney and Starr, and the families of the late Lennon and Harrison. They are granting the director full life story and music rights for his upcoming quadrilogy.
As you can imagine, this unheard-of level of access paired with almost no updates has the casting rumor mill in overdrive. Keoghan hasn’t even been confirmed by the production. But we think Starr being gung-ho about his possible casting is a good sign this may pan out.
As it stands, Mendes’ Beatles movies are expected to premiere sometime in 2027. We’ll keep you posted on updates as they become available.
