Disney just launched the final trailer for “Mufasa: The Lion King” during D3 Brazil! This new adventure will be a prequel to the 2019 CGI reboot of the 1994 animated film. The upcoming movie is directed by Barry Jenkins (“Moonlight”) from a screenplay by Jeff Nathanson (“The Lion King”).
The trailer opens with Rafiki telling a story to the young lion cub Kiara, the daughter of Simba and Nala. He tells the tale of brothers Mufasa and Taka, who went on a journey to find a home and start a new kingdom. It then shows glimpses of how the siblings met Zazu and Mufasa’s future mate/Simba’s mother, Sarabi.
“The journey of this film is kind of understanding how someone can build a family out of these very disparate parts,” Jenkins told Good Morning America in April. It also focuses on “how people who may be alone can find strength by coming together.”
The star-studded cast includes Beyoncé with her daughter Blue Ivy Carter, Donald Glover (“Community“), Mads Mikkelsen, Seth Rogen (“This is The End“), Billy Eichner, and Anika Noni Rose.
“Mufasa: The Lion King,” hits theaters on December 20th. You can watch the final trailer below:
