Letterboxd Troll Convinces Internet They Are John Carpenter

Nowadays it’s almost impossible to get by without some kind of social media presence. Given horror legend John Carpenter’s active X (formally Twitter) account it wasn’t surprising to see a Letterboxd profile bearing his name pop up. That is until he started reviewing his own films.

“They paid me more money than I had ever seen to write a sequel to a film that did not need one,” the now-deleted account wrote about “Halloween 2.” “I took the check and spent it on beers to get me drunk enough to plow through this crap. I looked at the final script, which took a whopping 2 days to write, and said “wow, now that’s a piece of shit.” And it was.”

“I fucking hate this pile of shit and want every copy burned,” as a review of “Memoirs Of An Invisible Man.” Though, to be fair, he does kind of hate that one.

But alas, this was not Carpenter’s normal brand of sass about his own work. It was merely the work of an internet troll who really hates “Halloween 2.” And then had the AUDACITY to come after “Dark Star.” The director dispelled the hoax in the most man yells at cloud way possible:

What the hell is a Letterboxd!??

With Letterboxd filling the role of the obligatory meta social media account:

So while the internet has made it infinitely easier for artists to hate their work in front of the public. This time it was just someone with a Cheeto-coated keyboard have a laugh. One day we may get the glory of Carpenter reviewing his own films, and others, but today is not that day.
