With the current state of the world, it’s safe to say most of us are sick of politics. So much so, that we may get a bit of schadenfreude from seeing political leaders in peril. At least, that’s what the upcoming apocalyptic horror comedy “Rumours” hopes for.

Co-directed by Guy Maddin, Evan Johnson, and Galen Johnson from a script written by Evan. This satirical film seeks to lampoon the state of modern government.

Straddling the lines between comedy, horror, and soap opera, “Rumours” follows seven leaders of the world’s wealthiest democracies at the annual G7 summit. During the summit, they attempt to draft a provisional statement regarding a global crisis. These so-called leaders become spectacles of incompetence, contending with increasingly surreal obstacles in the misty woods as night falls and they realize they are suddenly alone. Creating a mirror for the political ineptitude and institutional failures that are slowly burning down the world.

The film’s cast included Cate Blanchett, Roy Dupuis, Nikki Amuka-Bird, Charles Dance, Takehiro Hira, Denis Ménochet, Rolando Ravello, Zlatko Buric, and Alicia Vikander.

It is executive produced by Blanchett, Ari Aster, Phyllis Laing, Jorg Schulze, Joe Neurauter, Tyler Campellone, Adrian Love, Michael O’Leary, Andrew Karpen, and Kent Sanderson. Producers include Liz Jarvis, Philipp Kreuzer, and Lars Knudsen.

“Rumours” will hit theaters on October 18th, 2024. You can check out the bizarre and hilarious red band trailer below:
