DC Comics tentpole hero Batman was honored today with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Which, oddly enough, also earned the Caped Crusader a Guinness World Record title for being the first superhero to be granted a star by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. The star is dedicated to both late Adam West (who played the iconic character on the 1966 TV series), and the character’s co-creator, Bob Kane.
The Walk of Fame Star
On September 26th, Batman was honored with the 2,790th star on the legendary Hollywood Walk of Fame. As a tribute to the character’s determination and grit, inspiring generations. Batman stands out among DC’s stable of characters since he has no superpowers. Instead, he relied on his intelligence, skill, technical savvy, and incredible wealth to fight crime in Gotham City.
World Record
At the same time, Batman was being honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He was also setting a new Guinness World Record. That award was given in a special presentation by official Guinness World Record adjudicator Michael Empric.
But this isn’t the only world record the Dark Knight holds. In 2012, Batman was declared the most adapted comic book character in terms of live-action movies. The character has also had the most Oscar winners play him (George Clooney, Christian Bale, and Ben Affleck). Batman also has the most video game adaptations of a superhero movie, under his utility belt.
The (Soon to be) Meme
While all of these accolades are amazing, the internet took issue with how Batman received the star. Mostly the fact that none of the slew of actors that have portrayed him accepted the honor. Now, that could be due to the character receiving the star, not the actors who played him. So DC trying to keep that line clear does make some sense.
However, that doesn’t excuse the Party City-level outfit the poor person portraying him was thrust into. We, and the rest of the internet, refuse to believe that DC Comics and Warner Bros. didn’t have access to anything better than this! There are so many amazingly talented cosplayers out there. Why were none of them used? Just…why?
