Actor/musician Donald Glover wants to put the fun back into “Star Wars” with his upcoming “Lando” project. Glover is writing the film with his brother and frequent collaborator Stephen Glover. He’ll also reprise his role as the smooth-talking, cape-wearing Lando Calrissian.

    “Lando”

During a recent interview with The Wall Street Journal, Glover was asked what he wanted to bring to his “Star Wars” movie.

“I just want it to be fun,” he replied. “Like, as a Star Wars fan myself, like I think it’s important that there just needs to be more fun being had. It’s very hard to have fun right now. It’s tough because there are very serious things happening and those are the only things that connect us, weirdly. So I get why things are serious, but part of the human experience, I believe, is we have a responsibility to have enjoyment. And I just feel like we’re lacking in that department.”

    The State of “Star Wars”

As far as the current state of the “Star Wars” universe goes. “I love it but sometimes it be super serious,” he explains. “Sometimes it be like way too serious and it’s like everything that has to do with the Skywalker is like so serious.”

Whereas, Glover feels Lando has more freedom to not be serious. “Lando, I think the best part about him is he’s a scoundrel, you know,” he said. “And I feel like that people can relate to that and he’s probably like, man, this war is like whack. I just, I need money, you know? Which I feel everyone can relate to.”

“So, I want to just bring fun to Star Wars,” Glover adds. “I just want it to be fun.”

There is no set release date for “Lando,” just yet. We’ll keep you posted on updates about the project as they become available. You can check out the full interview below:
