Prime Video’s “Good Omens” has reportedly paused production on the series’ third and final season. The show centers around a fussy angel and a loose-living demon who must come together to stop armageddon. It is based on the 1990 novel by Neil Gaiman and Sir Terry Pratchett.
While “Good Omens” had already begun shooting in Scotland, sources say there are “discussions about possible production changes.” There are supposedly many factors involved in the decision, but it’s assumed it’s mostly due to several sexual assault allegations made against Gaiman.
Tortoise Media released a 4-part podcast “Master: the Allegations Against Neil Gaiman” earlier this year. The series chronicled the accounts of two women, a former nanny and a fan. Both of whom allege Gaiman sexually assaulted and abused them while they were in consensual relationships with him. Some of the accounts had already been addressed publicly by Gaiman before the podcast, on his Tumblr, and other places.
Gaiman has admitted to the relationships, but denied the allegations of impropriety.
“Good Omens” had already been renewed in December 2023 with Gaiman set to continue working as executive producer, writer, and showrunner. This news also comes less than a week after Disney paused development of a feature adaptation of his 2008 young adult novel “The Graveyard Book.” Netflix has also opted not to renew “Deadboy Detectives,” based on another Gaiman work, for another season. These actions strengthened the theory that the allegations are the major contributing factor for these Gaiman-based projects going on hiatus.
At this time, Prime Video has not commented on the decision, nor confirmed it.
We’ll keep you posted on updates about “Good Omens” production as they develop. You can catch the first two seasons streaming exclusively on Prime Video.
