In 2022, Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan’s series “Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” hit Netflix and took the nation by storm. The streamer has released the first teaser for the follow-up series, “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story.” Like its predecessor, it will also tell the very true story of Lyle and Erik Menendez, brothers who shot and killed their parents.

The 48-second teaser trailer opens with the words “On August 20, 1989 Lyle and Erik Menendez Murdered Their Parents.” We then see the two brothers drive up and walk into the family home. As they open the door and start to close it behind them, a single gunshot is heard.

    The Case

In real life, the prosecution for their case argued that the siblings committed the crime to inherit their family fortune. Meanwhile, Lyle and Erik remain adamant that they killed them out of fear resulting from a lifetime of physical, emotional, and sexual abuse at their hands.

The pair was convicted in 1996 for the murders of their parents, José and Mary Louise “Kitty” Menendez. They currently serve life sentences without the possibility of parole.

The series will chronicle the case that became a media circus in the 1990s. Patriarch José Menendez will be played by Javier Bardem, and Chloë Sevigny will portray his wife “Kitty.” The brothers will be played by Nicholas Alexander Chavez  as Lyle and Cooper Koch will portray Erik.

The cast also includes Nathan Lane, Ari Graynor, Leslie Grossman, Dallas Roberts, Paul Adelstein, Jason Butler Harner, Enrique Murciano, and Michael Gladis. Alongside Drew Powell, Charlie Hall, Gil Ozeri, Jeff Perry, Tessa Auberjonois, Tanner Stine, Larry Clarke, Jade Pettyjohn, and Marlene Forte

Murphy, Brennan, and Bardem are executive producing with Alexis Martin Woodall, Eric Kovtun, Scott Robertson, David McMillan, Louise Shore, and Carl Franklin.

“Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story” will hit Netflix on September 19th. You can check out the teaser trailer below:
