Are you ready for more giant robots fighting giant monsters? Because we sure are! Legendary Entertainment is developing a prequel series for its 2013 film “Pacific Rim.”
The Franchise
In the “Pacific Rim” universe, an inter-dimensional rift has been opened at the bottom of the ocean. This opening allows colossal monsters to enter our world and attack humanity. So humans did what we do best, design weapons to kill them in the form of giant fighting robots called Jaegers.
After the first film grossed over $400 million at the global box office a sequel was surprisingly far behind. But in 2018 we got “Pacific Rim Uprising,” followed by the Netflix anime series “Pacific Rim: The Black” which ran from 2021 to 2022.
The upcoming prequel series is part of a bigger first-look television deal between Legendary Entertainment and Eric Heisserer. The agreement has Heisserer and his Chronology co-founder, Carmen Lewis, developing IP-driven and related projects for Legendary. This would be the first series developed under this new deal.
“Eric is a multitalented, prolific creator whose track record of critical and commercial successes speaks for itself,” said Jason Clodfelter, president of Legendary Television. “We are thrilled to launch our partnership with Eric, Chronology, and Carmen, with a new entry in the epic, globally popular ‘Pacific Rim’ universe. We are certain their vision will make for an enthralling expansion to Legendary’s beloved franchise.”
We’ll keep you posted on updates about the “Pacific Rim” prequel series as they become available.
