    Uwe Boll Mocks “Borderlands” Flop; ‘Now You Wish I Directed’

    Almost universally mocked director Uwe Boll is doing some serious projection on X (formally Twitter). Helmer of such classics as “House of the Dead” and “BloodRayne” Boll knows a thing or two about box office flops. On August 11th, he shared an image about Eli Roth‘s “Borderlands” adaptation’s abysmal opening weekend.

    Stop Skeletons From Fighting, which bills itself as the dumbest and weirdest video game show on YouTube, refuted his claim. The user pointed out that:

    • “House of the Dead” opened at $5.5 million.
    • “Alone in the Dark” opened at $2.8 million.
    • “Bloodrayne” opened at $1.5 million.
    • “Dungeon Siege” opened at $3.2 million. 

    Boll vs Roth

    For comparison “Borderlands” made $8.8 million in the U.S. and Canada its opening weekend. It was also able to claw its way up to a 10% on Rotten Tomatoes, whereas 2005’s “Alone in the Dark” still only has a 1%.

    Despite his claim being thoroughly debunked, Boll fired back in typical X fashion. He made an unsubstantiated claim via an MS Paint image that his movies have been illegally downloaded 41 billion times.

    Now, we’d love to take his word for this unsourced factoid. But forgive us for not fully trusting the man who claims his films are financed with nazi gold. [Though we do have to give credit to world-class shitposter when we see one.]

    We also have a hard time believing that Roth’s failed feature will cause an online petition asking him to stop making movies. You know, like the one Boll had. The director retired from filmmaking, of his own volition, in 2016. Only to return to the industry in 2022.

    “Borderlands” may not be able to turn its negative reception around but statistically speaking, it’s already doing better than a large section of Boll’s work. 

    “Borderlands” is currently in theaters nationwide.
