The long-gestating sequel to 2003’s “Freaky Friday” just got an official title reveal during D3. Stars Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis announced it would be called “Freakier Friday!” They also teased some details about the upcoming film.

“It’s more fun, it’s more emotional, and it’s all for you guys,” Lohan said to the audience. “Seriously, the only reason we are back here doing this because of your love. That is why.”

“it feels like picking up where we left off, which is really beautiful,” Curtis added. It has been no secret that the pair remained close after the first film wrapped. A point that was driven home by a montage of behind-the-scenes photos playing behind them on screen.

    “Freakier Friday”

“Freakier Friday” is directed by Nisha Ganatra (“Late Night”) from a screenplay by Jordan Weiss (“Dollface”). The returning cast includes Lohan, Curtis, Mark Harmon, Chad Michael Murray, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Lucille Soong, Stephen Tobolowsky, and Rosalind Chao. Sophia Hammons, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, Jordan E. Cooper, and Manny Jacinto (“The Acolyte“) will join them as new additions. The film will be produced by Kristin Burr and Andrew Gunn.

    Farnchise History

The 2003 movie directed by Mark Waters was the fourth film based on Mary Rodgers’ 1972 novel of the same name. The first adaptation was by Disney in 1976 starring Jodie Foster and Barbara Harris. Followed by a 1995 made-for-TV film starring Shelley Long and Gaby Hoffmann.

The third and most recent adaption was done by Disney Channel in 2018. However, that was based on the 2016 musical version. All of these adaptations tell the story of an overworked mother and rebellious teen switching places through various supernatural forces. They are forced to live in the other’s shoes until they figure out how to switch back. All while growing to understand each other better.

“Freakier Friday” will hit theaters nationwide in 2025. You can check out the tile reveal below:
